Let me say that when I started this series, I didn't know it was a series. When I finished the first book, I was left rather bummed that I had to read two more books to figure it all out. Not to mention, paying what I feel like was too expensive for what I got.After the dazzling wonder of Ireland described in the first book, I was rather let down by the second book. There were no lengthy descriptions that drew me in or invited me like the first book did. London seemed a huge disappointment in comparison. Though Beth was finding herself again, reconnecting with old friends, it all felt a bit forced for the story and rushed through to get to the point of the plot. This book begged me to skim and skip forward instead of letting me languish in pleasure like the first book did.The relationship with Connor that paused at the end of book one seemed to take a nosedive in the second one and a new-old love interest, Wes, was created. It was delved into and described with such degree that I was rooting for Wes. Of course, Connor reappeared and the whole story was so immature that I didn't like him anymore. Then of course, another ending and have to start a new book. Oy. I'm worried about book 3.P.S. There are some graphic/gratuitous sex scenes that I felt completely unnecessary to the plot. Book Review- The London Flat by Julia GauvinI am committed to reading this whole series because I really like Connor and really want to like Elizabeth, Beth, Liz or Lara- whichever name she actually wishes to be called. The story is a good one, entertaining and adventurous. Honestly, I have found myself disappointed and annoyed at times in this series. In The London Flat, my frustration comes from discovering that Elizabeth’s addiction to her job seems to have turned into an addiction to men. She cannot seem to survive without having a man to cling to. I want her to be a stronger heroine than that. I get the tension created by bringing a second man into the picture, but it made her look weak and more than a little whiney, I thought. And she seemed so eager to let Connor go without even a discussion and hop into bed with Wes. I thought she was in love with Connor? And again, the sex was more like being at a boxing ring than a romance. Rough acrobatics is how I would describe it. I like sexual scenes that are more romantic, but that’s just me. I would encourage Jules to read Diana Gabaldon’s new book on writing sex scenes. I think it would take what she does well and smooth it out a bit. However, I do like the stories and will read the third. I would enjoy reading more of her work if she created female characters who were more balanced in their strength and vulnerability and if she toned down or romanticized the sexuality.
